Episode 215 – Amelie Robitaille – Cirque Du Soleil: Kurios / audio

Cirque Du Soleil

Amelie Robitaille (@Cirque on twitter) joins host Craig Price to discuss Cirque Du Soleil and their new touring show Kurios. The reputation of Cirque Du Soleil is undeniable, so why did they agree to talk to Craig? Because the circus of the sun is coming to town and who better to talk to about life under the strange big top of than someone as strange as Craig? Thankfully, Amelie is used to talking to clowns. She and Craig discuss behind the scenes of The Cirque, how they plan shows, what they look for when auditioning performers, how they deal with injuries and more. It’s a unique look into the life of a circus performer!

What is Kurios?

In an alternate yet familiar past, in a place where wonders abound for those who trust their imagination, a Seeker discovers that in order to glimpse the marvels that lie just below the surface, we must first learn to close our eyes.

In his larger-than-life curio cabinet, the Seeker is convinced that there exists a hidden, invisible world – a place where the craziest ideas and the grandest dreams await. A collection of otherworldly characters suddenly steps into his makeshift mechanical world. When the outlandish, benevolent characters turn his world upside down with a touch of poetry and humor in an attempt to ignite the Seeker’s imagination, his curios jump to life one by one before his very eyes.

What if by engaging our imagination and opening our minds we could unlock the door to a world of wonders?

Episode 164 – Thom Singer – Emceeing / audio

emceeing

Thom Singer (@ThomSinger on Twitter) returns to give host Craig Price some tips on being an emcee. Being an emcee or host for a corporate event is nothing like being an emcee at a comedy club. To help with Craig’s upcoming hosting duties at Comicpalooza, he decided to look for a professional. Past guest and speaker pal, Thom is widely known as the “Conference Catalyst” and professional emceeing is right in his wheelhouse. The two discuss, what the goals of the emcee is at an event, how to keep things moving along, how to deal with a speaker who goes long. They also discuss another major aspect of emceeing and is far more common, hosting a panel. How do you prepare, how much do you prepare, how do you get quiet guests involved and most importantly, how do you control the one panelist that tries to dominate the time.
