Episode 197 – Cary Gordon – Social Media Marketing / audio

social media marketing

Cary Gordon (@comicpalooza on twitter) joins host Craig Price to discuss social media marketing for Comicpalooza.  As part of the Comicpalooza Podcast Partnership Program, Craig invited Cary, comic con’s Social Media Coordinator, to sit down and talk how he and his team work their social media magic for Texas’ largest pop culture event.  The two discuss how far in advance the planning begins (hint: the day after the last one!) which platforms work best for interacting with attendees, how they prep announcements of big guests and more.

Episode 195 – Blue Sun Interpreting – Sign Language Interpreters / audio

sign language

Jennifer Husband and Leyel Hudson of Blue Sun Interpreting (@comicconterp on twitter) sit with host Craig Price to discuss sign language interpreting.  Kicking off the 2016 Comic-Con season in Texas, Craig brings the first of his Comicpalooza Podcast Partnership Program episodes with some great “co-workers”.  Craig first met Jennifer and Leyel during his panel with actor David Anders and was so impressed that he also made sure to call them out in his Ming Chen panel that fall at FanFair. The three talk about dealing with celebrities that ramble (Bill Shatner), celebrities that are super cool and interactive (John Barrowman) and how to deal with nerd words that don’t exist in the “real” world. They also discuss their own mini-convention Deaf Con that will be happening May 7th!  But mostly they geek out over upcoming cons and celebrities. They also discuss their latest venture Blue Sun Interpreting.  Blue Sun Interpreting is dedicated to providing qualified, certified, knowledgeable, professional American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services for comic conventions and other events in order to provide communication access for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals. Not only does Comicpalooza stand behind these great interpreters but Reality Check and Craig endorse them wholeheartedly.

Episode 165 – David Anders – Comicpalooza Panel 2015 / audio

David Anders

David Anders (@QuestionAnders on twitter) joins host Craig Price at his Q&A panel at Comicpalooza 2015. What is actor David Anders doing on the podcast?! He’s been the fan-favorite villain on shows like iZombie, Heroes, Alias, the Vampire Diaries and Once Upon a Time. He sat down with Craig for a panel at Comicpalooza to talk about his career, what brains taste like, some of his favorite experiences being an actor and even gets a little teary talking about the people who helped him the most. He also answers questions from his fans (that also includes Craig), shows off his pipes and generally goofs around for an hour.

They laugh, they cry, they even hug it out a bit on this live recording. If you’re not a fan of David Anders now, you will be after this podcast!

You can learn all about David and what great roles he’s played (fire up the Netflix!) on his IMDB page.

Episode 161 – John Simons – Comicpalooza 2015 / audio

comicpalooza

John Simons, chairman of Comicpalooza (@comicpalooza on twitter) speaks with host Craig Price about putting a comic-con together. The two discuss the modest history of Comicpalooza from it’s humble beginnings in a movie theater lobby to the juggernaut can’t miss festival that boast 60,000 attendees (more are expected this year!). John explains how he had hoped to grow into a hotel ballroom type of space only to see his comic-con jump into the cavernous George R Brown Convention Center. He talks about how he plans ahead (sometime up to 3 years in advance) for upcoming conventions, who they decide to ask and what type of programming you can expect this year. Craig goes on and on about how great John Barrowman was at Comicpalooza 2014 (It’s kind of embarrassing), the diversity of programming available (it’s really like 10 small conventions happening at once) and the love of beer while waiting in line.

Comicpalooza’s mission is to provide the best and biggest annual multi-format pop culture convention in the southwest region of the United States, serving not only the fans of comics, science fiction, fantasy, video and table top gaming, anime, music and film, but also as a trade show and showcase for the studios, publishers, and manufacturers in those industries.

This year Comicpalooza is happening on May 22nd through the 25th. You can learn about all the guests currently scheduled (Craig is excited to see Haley Atwell and Henry Winkler) at http://www.comicpalooza.com
