CM30: How to Tell When Someone Is Lying

Wednesday, April 5 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM

Are you winning the game of Two Truths and a Lie? You play every day and don’t even know it. Detecting lies is crucial in business and life. Do you know if your clients really like your proposal? Do they like the job you did? Are they telling you the truth about their budget? Are they telling you all of their needs? Are the people you’re interviewing inflating their resume? And, most importantly, did your kids eat those chocolate donuts that were on the counter or did the dog? This program uses videos from current events to demonstrate techniques. To apply the learning, we’ll play Two Truths and a Lie.

Objectives:

  • Identify how to instantly tell if someone is lying.
  • Explain which lies are important.
  • Breakdown how to elegantly uncover the truth.

Audience Statement: This session assumes that participants have a working knowledge of communication techniques in the legal industry. No advance preparation is required.

Episode 193 – Ty Bennett – Partnership is the New Leadership / audio

partnership

Ty Bennett (@TyBennett on twitter) joins host Craig Price to discuss his book Partnership is the New Leadership. Leadership is something many people want to have but often their style can be less effective than they want. Benevolent dictators and force of personality can only work with a few. How can leaders be more effective? By partnering with their employees, of course. Craig and Ty discuss how leadership with short term goals can reap quick rewards but have long-term side effects (few that are good), how commitment between employee and employer is a two-way street and how they both agree that motivation is overrated.

Episode 182 – Scott Cooksey – Connection / audio

connection

Scott Cooksey (@ideacharger on twitter) sits down with host Craig Price to discuss connection. Connection means different things for different people. For some, making and keeping connections is a natural thing. For others, it takes effort and energy to connect and engage on a regular basis. When Craig sits down with Scott, the two talk about how a disaster forced Scott to reach out to his clients and establish a connection, how listening is the key to building connections and why Craig is so bad at maintaining long-term connections with clients. They also get into why Craig feels LinkedIn requests from strangers are just ways for people to spam his connections.

You can learn more about Scott at his website http://ideacharger.com and listen to his podcast The Success Charger Podcast with Scott Cooksey where Craig recorded an episode on negativity.
