Episode 228 – Ming Chen – Con Life / audio

Ming Chen

Ming Chen (@mingchen37 on twitter) returns to share his experiences at convention life with host Craig Price.

Once again Reality Check with Craig Price is a proud member of the Comicpalooza Podcast Partnership Program. To celebrate, Craig has been sitting on this episode since New Year’s, when he and Ming Chen, from AMC’s Comic Book Men, recorded a panel at Marvelous Nerd Year’s Eve. With Ming returning to Comicpalooza again this year, May 12th through the 14th, Craig wanted to give a glimpse into what it is like going from con to con. Ming is everywhere and know everyone. So much so that Craig pitches a travel show, discusses why some of Ming’s co-stars are no-shows and and how he was “discovered” by Kevin Smith when he made a fansite for Clerks.

Episode 222 – Maximiliano Hernandez and Christina Wren / audio

Superhero movies

Maximiliano Hernandez (@maxitois4real on twitter) and Christina Wren (@ChristinaSWren on twitter) join host Craig Price to discuss their roles in superhero movies.

It’s a crossover episode! Craig’s latest podcast project Matinee Heroes spotlighted the movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier and included half of the interview from Marvelous Nerd Year’s Eve with Max (they’re close enough pals to use shorter names) but Christina also was dishing out wisdom too. So why waste such good stuff? Craig wouldn’t, of course. So here is their interview in its entirety.  The three have a great discussion on how Marvel’s (Max appeared in Thor, Avengers and other Marvel projects) process compares to DC’s (Christina appeared in Man of Steel and Batman v. Superman), how they found out they were going to be in these huge blockbuster movies and what it’s like meeting Robert Redford.  They also take questions from the audience as well.

Be sure to check out Matinee Heroes each week! What is Matinee Heroes? It is a podcast dedicated to exploring hero cinema – from adventurers, heroes, to superheroes; from Jedi to buddy cops; from the Wild West, to the distant past, to futures both hopeful and dystopian, from ancient lands to the deepest reaches of outer space. In a time when we need heroes more than ever, Alan and Craig will try to understand just what makes our cinematic heroes tick, and how we can use that heroism in our everyday life.

Episode 215 – Amelie Robitaille – Cirque Du Soleil: Kurios / audio

Cirque Du Soleil

Amelie Robitaille (@Cirque on twitter) joins host Craig Price to discuss Cirque Du Soleil and their new touring show Kurios. The reputation of Cirque Du Soleil is undeniable, so why did they agree to talk to Craig? Because the circus of the sun is coming to town and who better to talk to about life under the strange big top of than someone as strange as Craig? Thankfully, Amelie is used to talking to clowns. She and Craig discuss behind the scenes of The Cirque, how they plan shows, what they look for when auditioning performers, how they deal with injuries and more. It’s a unique look into the life of a circus performer!

What is Kurios?

In an alternate yet familiar past, in a place where wonders abound for those who trust their imagination, a Seeker discovers that in order to glimpse the marvels that lie just below the surface, we must first learn to close our eyes.

In his larger-than-life curio cabinet, the Seeker is convinced that there exists a hidden, invisible world – a place where the craziest ideas and the grandest dreams await. A collection of otherworldly characters suddenly steps into his makeshift mechanical world. When the outlandish, benevolent characters turn his world upside down with a touch of poetry and humor in an attempt to ignite the Seeker’s imagination, his curios jump to life one by one before his very eyes.

What if by engaging our imagination and opening our minds we could unlock the door to a world of wonders?

Episode 195 – Blue Sun Interpreting – Sign Language Interpreters / audio

sign language

Jennifer Husband and Leyel Hudson of Blue Sun Interpreting (@comicconterp on twitter) sit with host Craig Price to discuss sign language interpreting.  Kicking off the 2016 Comic-Con season in Texas, Craig brings the first of his Comicpalooza Podcast Partnership Program episodes with some great “co-workers”.  Craig first met Jennifer and Leyel during his panel with actor David Anders and was so impressed that he also made sure to call them out in his Ming Chen panel that fall at FanFair. The three talk about dealing with celebrities that ramble (Bill Shatner), celebrities that are super cool and interactive (John Barrowman) and how to deal with nerd words that don’t exist in the “real” world. They also discuss their own mini-convention Deaf Con that will be happening May 7th!  But mostly they geek out over upcoming cons and celebrities. They also discuss their latest venture Blue Sun Interpreting.  Blue Sun Interpreting is dedicated to providing qualified, certified, knowledgeable, professional American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services for comic conventions and other events in order to provide communication access for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals. Not only does Comicpalooza stand behind these great interpreters but Reality Check and Craig endorse them wholeheartedly.
